Intercorp in the Community...
Intercorp is proud to support several charitable causes that serve the needs of children and
young people in the community.
Intercorp is a corporate sponsor of Penn State University’s
Dance Marathon or THON, as it is commonly known. This
student-run philanthropy raises money annually for the Four Diamonds Fund, supporting pediatric
cancer research and treatment, along with financial aid for families of these children, at
Penn State’s Hershey Medical Center. The 2007 campaign raised a whopping $5,240,385.17 for
this cause. Lena Matternas, Intercorp’s IT consultant, served on the Overall Committee for the
2007 event, and Intercorp employee Molly Harmes (then a student at Penn State Harrisburg), danced
in THON 2005. Each year, THON continues to raise money in the hopes of one day conquering childhood
cancer. We look forward to another year with THON 2010!
Intercorp also supports the Second Mile, a program
designed for children who come from difficult circumstances or backgrounds and need guidance
and direction in order to become productive citizens. The Second Mile provides nine prevention,
early intervention and community-based programs to more than 100,000 children across Pennsylvania.
A unique aspect of the program is that it is not a handout, but teaches these young people the
importance of setting goals and following through, the importance of community service, and
the importance of academics and family and peer relationships.
