Contractor's Pollution Liability
Whether a garage-based start-up operation or a well-established general contractor building skyscrapers - Intercorp can place a cost effective Contractor’s Pollution Liability (CPL) policy. CPL coverage is important because it fills the coverage void left by the absolute pollution exclusion found in virtually all general liability policies. While pollution claims against contractors tend to be infrequent, when they do occur, they can be quite severe.
Many contractors in the construction and demolition industries need to carry CPL to satisfy contractual requirements. Contractors who apply pesticides or transport hazardous materials need CPL coverage due to their increased exposure for third party bodily injury or property damage claims that result from pollution conditions. Intercorp currently places CPL coverage for some of the following types of accounts:
- General contractors and mechanical, electric, plumbing, and drywall contractors involved in construction.
- Utility installation contractors.
- Landscapers.
- Service station construction and maintenance contractors.
- Fire suppression contractors.
- Demolition contractors.
Coverage features of CPL policies include:
- Third party bodily injury and property damage liability including cleanup costs and a reduction in fair market property values and loss of rental income.
- Defense costs typically erode the limits of liability, but separate defense limits are available.
- May be written on either an occurrence or claims-made basis.
- Typically include blanket coverage for additional insureds where required by contract, primary and non-contributory limits, and automatic waiver of subrogation.
- Limits from $500,000 to $5,000,000.
- Premiums start at $2,000.
- Multi-year policies are available.
- Coverage for transportation liability, mold and lead paint exposures is available.
- Separate per occurrence sublimits available for emergency response costs.
